Day 12

This week I have been skiing in all kinds of conditions; rain, powdery snow, overcast, fog and today, crispy sunny conditions. The coldest day so far, -10 at the parking lot. The air was so crisp that I could tell that the person next to me in the lift was a smoker, not a pleasant experience. Last night I slipped on the stairs and ended up as a puddle at the base after landing on the top step with my lower back so I was taking it easier than normal. I don’t think I could handle a fall in my current shape.

Day 11

It was cold today as well, -6 at the parking lot. The staff did a great job and Zephyr was open when I arrived at 8:25. I was alone at the mountain until 9:15. There was no one there so I was just lapping on the backside. It even snowed for a while which surprised me. I didn’t think there was snow in the forecast this year.

Solitude

Day 10

It was pretty cold this morning, -6 when I parked the car. With the cold and the grooming, it was really good conditions for the first couple of runs. I was skiing the Lower Grouse Alley a couple of times as it was nobody there.

Nice inversion layer

Day 9

Today was the day. It started to snow heavily around 4:30 yesterday. The flakes were coming down at the size of golf balls. It snowed for a while, but not as long as I was hoping. By the time I went to bed it had stopped snowing and I woke up with the same 3 centimeters from last night.

Up at the mountain they received more, perhaps 15 centimeters. I did some runs in the trees at the Powder Bowl without hitting anything underneath. When they opened the backside, I was the first to ski Challenger. A little bumpy, but still some good powder turns.

Second lift ride up on the backside

Finally getting that winter look back

Day 8

Today it was really soft and nice snow in the morning, but it got skid up quickly to expose the hard pack underneath. Around 9:00 it started to snow/rain and by 10 I was pretty wet. I thought it was the beginning of the storm, but it kept raining for most of the day.

Awaiting the storm

Day 4

The morning started up well, but then I was handed a warning for supposedly skiing too fast. That’s Northstar for you. It is not possible to carve in a slower speed, you would need to start skidding which is not how it is supposed to be done.

Icy conditions but at least there is a white blanket around the resort.
